The renowned design firm will be responsible for creating the casing of the “pawn”-type device and the smart wristband, combining aesthetics, ergonomics, and usability in a non-invasive technological solution.
Jaén, June 2024 – The MicroChip4Age project, led by the ASIA research group at the University of Jaén, has reached a new milestone with the incorporation of the prestigious Eli Gutiérrez Studio as the official designer of the casing for the “pawn”-type device and the smart wristband that form part of its non-invasive monitoring system for older adults and chronic patients.
The studio, led by internationally recognized designer Eli Gutiérrez, will contribute its expertise in product design, functionality, and aesthetics to achieve a technological solution that is respectful, integrative, and user-friendly.
Industrial design in the service of well-being
The collaboration with Eli Gutiérrez Studio aims to shape devices that are not only functional, but also ergonomic, discreet, and visually appealing—adapted to daily living environments and designed to respect the privacy and autonomy of users.
The casing design is key for the proper integration of the electronic components developed by Hardware Me Electronics, and represents an essential step toward real-world validation of the system, which will soon be deployed in the homes of patients with type 2 diabetes.
Technology and design united to care without invading
MicroChip4Age promotes a technology that cares without surveilling, combining environmental sensors, wearable devices, indoor localization, and interpretable artificial intelligence, without the use of cameras or microphones. The agreement with Eli Gutiérrez Studio brings an essential element to this equation: emotional, user-centered design.
The collaboration between designers, engineers, and researchers will result in functional and appealing prototypes, validated both in laboratory settings and under real-world conditions, as part of the project’s roadmap to achieve Technology Readiness Level 7 (TRL 7).
Design with a social purpose
The collaboration with Eli Gutiérrez Studio, known for its international projects that combine creativity, sensitivity, and purpose, reinforces the vision of MicroChip4Age as a technological, human-centered, and real-world-oriented initiative.
