The MicroChip4Age researcher from the University of Jaén delivered a guest lecture on intelligent localization and social-healthcare challenges as part of the “Emerging Technologies in Health” course.
Jaén, May 2025 – Dr. Antonio P. Albín Rodríguez participated as a guest speaker in the Telehealth Master’s Program at the National Open and Distance University (UNAD) in Colombia, where he delivered a lecture entitled “Innovating to Care: Localization and Technology in the Face of the Aging Challenge.”
The talk was part of the course Emerging Technologies in Health, which explores innovative solutions applied to healthcare from a technical, humanistic, and forward-thinking perspective. Dr. Albín was invited due to his extensive experience in the development of intelligent systems, particularly in the application of non-invasive localization technologies in real-world settings.
Purpose-driven technology: innovation for aging
During his presentation, Dr. Albín addressed the current challenges posed by population aging, emphasizing how the combination of distributed sensors, ambient intelligence, and indoor localization systems can offer respectful, efficient, and scalable solutions for the care of older adults.
Throughout his lecture, he showcased the progress of the MicroChip4Age project as an example of technological innovation focused on the development of systems that monitor patient activity without the use of cameras or microphones, thereby ensuring privacy and promoting personal autonomy.
An academic bridge between Spain and Latin America
The participation of Spanish researchers in international programs like UNAD’s Telehealth Master’s reinforces collaborative ties between Ibero-American institutions and promotes the exchange of applied knowledge in key areas such as digital health, telemedicine, and active aging.
Through this intervention, the MicroChip4Age project continues to expand its impact beyond Europe, positioning itself as a benchmark in the design of emerging technologies applied to well-being and care from an ethical and global perspective.
