The project kicks off the new year by analyzing protection strategies for its technological innovations through patents and utility models, as part of its commitment to the strategic transfer of research outcomes.

Jaén, January 2025 – The MicroChip4Age project team, led by the ASIA research group at the University of Jaén, starts the year by taking a decisive step in the field of industrial property. During the month of January, the team has launched work on the preparation of a Patent Technology Report (PTR)—a key tool to evaluate legal protection opportunities and the strategic value of the project’s technological developments.

A strategic tool for researchers

The ITP is an in-depth analytical document based on international patent databases, scientific literature, and technical publications. Its goal is to provide a clear overview of the state of the art related to a specific technology, enabling the research team to make informed decisions about the potential filing of patents or utility models, and to help guide future R&D efforts.

This analysis also supports the identification of technical differentiation opportunities, awareness of key sector players, avoidance of redundancy, and alignment of protection strategies with the technology transfer and exploitation criteria outlined in the PERTE CHIP, the national program funding the project.

Toward the protection of prior results

Initial efforts are focused on analyzing technologies developed in earlier phases of the project—particularly the indoor localization algorithms and the intelligent architecture for monitoring—to assess their potential for patent or utility model protection.

This process is being carried out in collaboration with the Technology Transfer Office (OTRI) at the University of Jaén and is part of the project’s roadmap to reinforce technological maturity (PTR) and facilitate future industrial and societal exploitation.

Innovation is not only about creating—it’s also about protecting

With the launch of the PTR analysis, MicroChip4Age reaffirms its commitment to applied research and responsible, ethical, and strategic knowledge transfer, ensuring that the innovations developed reach those who need them and extend beyond the academic realm.
