PhD student Juan F. Gaitán Guerrero begins a scientific collaboration in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, Biostatistics and Medical Epidemiology at the Mizzou School of Medicine, strengthening the global impact of the MicroChip4Age project.
Columbia (Missouri, USA), September 2025 – The MicroChip4Age project, led by our ASIA research group at the University of Jaén, continues to strengthen its international dimension with the incorporation of PhD student Juan F. Gaitán Guerrero into a research stay at the University of Missouri – Columbia. A collaborating researcher of the project and member of the PhD Program in Information and Communication Technologies at UJA, Juan F. Gaitán will carry out his work at one of the most prestigious academic centers in the field of digital health.
The stay takes place in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, Biostatistics and Medical Epidemiology, a leading hub in applied research on health informatics, statistical analysis of clinical data, and public health. Within this context, Juan F. Gaitán will develop a study on the advanced processing of time-series biomedical data, aiming to apply artificial intelligence techniques that enhance the interpretation of continuous data and support more precise and personalized medical decision-making.
Applied science with global projection
This international collaboration is aligned with the strategic objectives of MicroChip4Age, which focus on developing non-invasive technological solutions for monitoring older adults and patients with chronic conditions. Juan F. Gaitán’s work complements the project’s current research lines on the intelligent processing of contextual data and its translation into useful clinical knowledge.
The stay combines advanced research training with applied scientific work, representing a key opportunity both for the PhD candidate’s academic development and for the international visibility of the MicroChip4Age system.

A commitment to scientific cooperation
With this new initiative, MicroChip4Age and the University of Jaén reaffirm their commitment to the internationalization of knowledge, scientific transfer, and the strengthening of strategic alliances worldwide. The intersection of artificial intelligence, digital health, and active aging opens new possibilities for collaboration, reinforcing the interdisciplinary, ethical, and transformative nature of the project.
