The project partners with Kinrel consultancy to align with regulatory, ethical, and data protection frameworks, paving the way for future implementation in health and social care systems.

Jaén, May 2025 – The MicroChip4Age project, coordinated by the ASIA research group at the University of Jaén, has begun work on its ethical and legal assessment report—a key phase to ensure that the system’s technological development complies with national and international standards while protecting users’ dignity, autonomy, and privacy. The report is being prepared in collaboration with the specialized consultancy Kinrel, following a structured three-phase methodology.

The first phase will identify the applicable regulatory requirements, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Spain’s LOPDGDD, the Medical Device Regulation (MDR), and the upcoming EU Artificial Intelligence Act. This stage will also include a technological diagnosis to anticipate possible future classification of the system as a clinical or commercial solution.

The second phase will address the ethical analysis, covering informed consent, minimal intrusiveness, fairness in access, societal acceptability, and human oversight in automated processes. The report will include a risk matrix and propose ethical compliance indicators to guide the project’s responsible scaling.

The final phase will establish a strategic roadmap to support the potential transfer or commercialization of the technology, ensuring ethical and legal alignment throughout all stages. The report will also highlight the project’s contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities)—reinforcing its mission to create responsible innovation with social impact.
