Professor of Computer Engineering, Dr. Macarena Espinilla, opened the session with a talk reflecting on more than a decade of research focused on the design of intelligent and respectful home monitoring systems.<\/span><\/h2>\n

Ja\u00e9n, 23\/10\/2024<\/b> \u2013 The <\/span>Polytechnic School of Ja\u00e9n (EPSJ)<\/b> hosted the event <\/span>\u2018Engineering and Entrepreneurship. Women Engineers of Ja\u00e9n\u2019<\/span><\/i>, a space designed to highlight female talent and the impact of research, innovation, and knowledge transfer projects driven by the <\/span>University of Ja\u00e9n<\/b> in collaboration with the regional business sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

The opening session featured a keynote by <\/span>Dr. Macarena Espinilla Est\u00e9vez<\/b>, Professor of Computer Engineering and coordinator of the <\/span>MicroChip4Age<\/b> project, who delivered the talk titled <\/span>\u201cFrom Idea to Market: The Journey of an Intelligent Activity Recognition System.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Over a decade of impact-driven research<\/b><\/h3>\n

During her presentation, Dr. Espinilla outlined <\/span>more than ten years of scientific work<\/b> focused on the development of <\/span>intelligent home monitoring systems<\/b>, tracing the path from early sensor-based prototypes to the consolidation of <\/span>MicroChip4Age<\/b>\u2014a project that offers <\/span>non-invasive technology<\/b> for monitoring the <\/span>activity and location of older adults and chronic patients<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her research, closely linked to <\/span>artificial intelligence applied to data generated by sensor-equipped devices<\/b>, aims to improve people’s <\/span>autonomy, safety, and quality of life<\/b>, while always respecting their <\/span>privacy and independence<\/b>. She also emphasized the <\/span>transformative role of Computer Engineering<\/b> in creating solutions with <\/span>social impact<\/b>, and the importance of <\/span>technology transfer<\/b> as a pathway for bringing university-generated knowledge into society.<\/span><\/p>\n

A day of inspiration and dialogue<\/b><\/h3>\n
