Dr. Antonio P. Alb\u00edn Rodr\u00edguez, member of the MicroChip4Age team, reflects on how technology can foster autonomy and safety for older adults.<\/span><\/h2>\n

Concepci\u00f3n, 09\/04\/2025<\/b> \u2013 The <\/span>MicroChip4Age<\/b> project continues its commitment to disseminating scientific knowledge and promoting dialogue on the pressing challenges of an aging population. On this occasion, <\/span>Dr. Antonio P. Alb\u00edn Rodr\u00edguez<\/b>, member of the project\u2019s research team, delivered a talk entitled <\/span>\u201cIndoor Localization: A Key Tool to Face the Challenges of Aging\u201d<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The lecture took place on <\/span>Wednesday, April 9th at 10:00 AM<\/b>, at the <\/span>San Agust\u00edn Auditorium<\/b> of the <\/span>Faculty of Engineering at the Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de la Sant\u00edsima Concepci\u00f3n (UCSC)<\/b>, as part of the international outreach activities of the project.<\/span><\/p>\n

Technology for well-being in the context of aging<\/b><\/p>\n

During his presentation, <\/span>Dr. Alb\u00edn Rodr\u00edguez<\/b> addressed how <\/span>population aging<\/b> presents <\/span>increasing challenges in terms of autonomy, safety, and overall well-being<\/b>, both for individuals and for healthcare systems.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this context, he explained how <\/span>indoor localization systems<\/b>, developed within <\/span>MicroChip4Age<\/b>, are becoming <\/span>effective and non-invasive tools<\/b> for providing <\/span>personalized monitoring<\/b>, <\/span>early risk detection<\/b>, and <\/span>greater independence<\/b> in the everyday environments of older adults.<\/span><\/p>\n

Custom-built devices versus generic commercial solutions<\/b><\/p>\n

One of the key points emphasized by <\/span>Dr. Alb\u00edn Rodr\u00edguez<\/b> was the <\/span>importance of developing proprietary electronic devices<\/b>, in order to avoid making intelligent indoor localization systems <\/span>dependent on or constrained by generic commercial platforms<\/b>.
