Dr. Macarena Espinilla delivers a keynote lecture on the transition from artificial intelligence research to social impact, presenting MicroChip4Age as a successful case study.<\/span><\/h2>\n

Concepci\u00f3n, 10\/04\/2025<\/b> \u2013 The <\/span>MicroChip4Age<\/b> project played a leading role in the <\/span>opening ceremony of the Artificial Intelligence PhD Program<\/b>, jointly delivered by the universities of the <\/span>CRUCH Biob\u00edo-\u00d1uble<\/b> consortium, thanks to the participation of <\/span>Dr. Macarena Espinilla<\/b>, Professor at the University of Ja\u00e9n and coordinator of the project, as the keynote speaker.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event was held at the <\/span>San Agust\u00edn Auditorium<\/b> of the <\/span>Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de la Sant\u00edsima Concepci\u00f3n<\/b>, and brought together students, academics, and researchers from various fields related to technology development and innovation.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the ceremony, <\/span>Dr. Espinilla was also appointed as a visiting scholar<\/b> of the PhD program, in recognition of her outstanding research career and international contribution in the field of applied artificial intelligence with social impact.<\/span><\/p>\n

A keynote on the social value of artificial intelligence<\/b><\/p>\n

Under the title <\/span>“From Artificial Intelligence to Social Impact: MicroChip4Age, from Lab to Market”<\/span><\/i>, Dr. Espinilla delivered an <\/span>open keynote lecture<\/b> to the academic community, in which she shared her experience in developing <\/span>non-invasive technologies<\/b> based on <\/span>microelectronics and AI<\/b>, aimed at improving the quality of life of <\/span>older adults and chronic patients<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

She described the journey of <\/span>MicroChip4Age<\/b>, from its early research stages to its real-world validation, and reflected on the <\/span>ethical and technological challenges<\/b> involved in transferring scientific innovations to the <\/span>healthcare system and the market<\/b>, always keeping the focus on the people.<\/span><\/p>\n

A pioneering and collaborative PhD program<\/b><\/p>\n

This academic event is part of the <\/span>FIC project \u201cAdvanced Human Capital in Artificial Intelligence for the Biob\u00edo Region\u201d<\/b>, funded by the <\/span>Regional Government of Biob\u00edo<\/b> through the <\/span>Innovation Fund for Competitiveness (FIC-R)<\/b>. The initiative aims to promote strategic capacities in artificial intelligence, with a focus on generating <\/span>social and economic impact<\/b> in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Artificial Intelligence PhD Program<\/b> is a <\/span>pioneering initiative in Chile and Latin America<\/b>, bringing together faculty from the <\/span>University of Concepci\u00f3n<\/b>, <\/span>University of B\u00edo-B\u00edo<\/b>, <\/span>Universidad Cat\u00f3lica de la Sant\u00edsima Concepci\u00f3n<\/b>, and <\/span>Federico Santa Mar\u00eda Technical University<\/b>. This inter-university collaboration offers a robust framework for the <\/span>training of highly qualified professionals<\/b> in a field that is strategic for the future.<\/span><\/p>\n
