Ja\u00e9n, September 2025<\/b> \u2013 The <\/span>MicroChip4Age<\/b> project, led by the <\/span>ASIA research group at the University of Ja\u00e9n<\/b> and funded under the <\/span>PERTE CHIP<\/b> initiative, took part last week in the <\/span>European Researchers’ Night<\/b> with the outreach workshop <\/span>\u201cAI in Action: Innovating for a Better Life.\u201d<\/b> The event allowed hundreds of attendees to explore first-hand how artificial intelligence and non-invasive technology can enhance everyday life, particularly in the fields of health and wellbeing.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Technology for wellbeing<\/b><\/h3><\/h3>\n\n

The workshop showcased a variety of technological developments with a social purpose, such as an intelligent robotic arm, a sensor-equipped smart home, a smart farm, an autonomous car with obstacle detection sensors, and a connected t-shirt that visualizes the wearer\u2019s breathing in real time on a tablet. These demonstrations served as accessible examples of how sensor-collected data and AI can be integrated into real-world settings to improve quality of life.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

MicroChip4Age in the spotlight<\/b><\/h3><\/h3>\n\n

One of the most visited areas was the <\/span>MicroChip4Age demo<\/b>, which featured the project\u2019s BLE smart wristband and \u201cpawn\u201d-type indoor localization device. Visitors had the opportunity to see the monitoring system working in real time and were invited to share their feedback through perception and usability surveys. This direct interaction reinforced the project\u2019s <\/span>human-centered and non-invasive<\/b> approach.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Social and media impact<\/b><\/h3><\/h3>\n\n

The team’s participation was not only a public success but also gained significant media attention. In this context, <\/span>La Contra de Ja\u00e9n<\/span><\/i><\/a> published an <\/span>interview with Dr. Macarena Espinilla Est\u00e9vez<\/b>, coordinator of the <\/span>MicroChip4Age<\/b> project, exploring the system\u2019s ethical foundation, its focus on dignity, and its potential to enhance the lives of older adults through non-invasive technology.
